Stand with Chand charity event in support of Dorset Mind
Hosting our first charity event at Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf
Posted August 11, 2023

Here at Smugglers Cove Adventure golf, we love to support our community and local charities. So, in June 2022 when we heard about Chandy’s ‘Stand with Chand’ walk along the seafront to raise awareness and educate people about the prejudice and discrimination faced by many people with disabilities of course we were keen to join and take part to show our solidarity. The walk was a huge success and had a great turnout of over 50 people, even on one of the hottest days of the year, the community was still determined to come down and stand up against this important issue.

This year we wanted to show our support again, but in true Smugglers Cove fashion we wanted to go one step further! So, we decided to host our own charity awareness and fundraising event at our adventure golf course with Chandy and local mental health support charity Dorset Mind.

Mental health & disability campaigner Chandy Green said, “Being entrusted with the mini golf fundraiser at Smugglers Cove was incredibly meaningful. After a year of battling mental health challenges stemming from a disability-related hate crime, this opportunity allowed me to create a place and time of unity and enjoyment. By uniting people for a common cause, we not only raised essential funds for Dorset Mind but also transformed adversity into strength, proving the potential for positive change even in the face of hardship.”

On Sunday 25th June we encouraged all visitors to donate to Dorset Mind, which every single visitors were more than happy to do! Dorset Mind were there to provide information booklets and leaflets offering advice and support to help manage mental health issues. The event was a great success raising funds for the charity, and the feedback from customers was really positive and lovely to hear, with lots of them saying Dorset Mind is a charity close to their hearts.

Calvin Glen, Trustee for Dorset Mind said, “Thank you so much to Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf Bournemouth for choosing to support Dorset Mind and facilitating us to have a much-needed presence within the community, the money you have raised could fund 20 Mentoring Minds sessions to support people with conditions such as anxiety and depression to develop coping skills to manage symptoms and confidence to build social connections, preventing loneliness and isolation. Also a huge thank you to Chandy our ambassador for organising this, we couldn’t do what we do without the support of people like yourselves or Chandy!”

The event itself was a great success raising £441 in just one day! We are so pleased with how our first charity event hosted at Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf went and look forward to holding more in the future.
